Conferment Ceremony of Kwok Yat Wai Endowed Chair of Environmental and Biological Analysis cum Inaugural Lecture by Professor Zongwei Cai Founding Endowed Chair of Environmental and Biological Analysis
HKBU received a donation of HK$10 million from the Kwok Chung Bo Fun Charitable Fund to establish the Endowed Chair of Environmental and Biological Analysis to reinforce the University’s leadership in the field among the academic community.
At a conferment ceremony held on Friday (9 October), HKBU bestowed the title of Founding Kwok Yat Wai Endowed Chair of Environmental and Biological Analysis on Professor Cai Zongwei, Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry. Mr Raymond Kwok and Mr Kenneth Kwok, representatives of the Kwok Chung Bo Fun Charitable Fund, Mr Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, and Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU officiated at the ceremony.
Mr Raymond Kwok said that with the establishment of the Endowed Chair of Environmental and Biological Analysis, he is confident that HKBU will accomplish even greater achievements through its continuous commitment to research and development. He also expressed his gratitude to all the scholars who have contributed immensely to science and research.
On behalf of the University, President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Roland Chin thanked the Fund for its donation in support of the University’s dedicated research endeavours.
Following the ceremony, Professor Cai delivered his inaugural lecture on “Monitoring Persistent Organic Pollutants under the Stockholm Convention and its effects on Human Health”. Professor Cai looked at the adverse effects of exposure to dioxins in food and the environment on humans using case studies, evaluated the effectiveness of the Stockholm Convention in the Asia region and introduced the work that the University has conducted in this field.
