HKBU and CAS Joint Research Institute of Environmental Sciences announces Change of Directorship to strengthen environmental sciences development
The Joint Research Institute of Environmental Sciences operated by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held a ceremony at 13 February, 2014 to mark a Change of Directorship. The new appointed directors of the Joint Institute are Professor Cai Zongwei, Chair Professor of Department of Chemistry of HKBU (Hong Kong), and Professor Zhu Benzhan from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of CAS (Mainland).
The ceremony was officiated by Professor Jiang Guibin, Academician of CAS, and Director-General of the Research Centre for Eco-Environmental Sciences, CAS; Professor Zhu Benzhan, Director (Mainland) of the Joint Institute; Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU; Professor Tang Tao, Associate Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Science of HKBU, and Professor Cai Zongwei, Director (Hong Kong) of the Joint Institute.
The Joint Institute will continue to cooperate in the training of postgraduate students through the Environmental Management and Science Programme. It will also carry on with collaborative research work between the Mainland and Hong Kong, and host academic exchange activities including national and international conferences, joint postgraduate student programme, scientific publications and facilitate information exchange.
Environmental sciences are one of the focus areas of HKBU’s research development. The Joint Institute, one of the HKBU joint institutes on the Mainland, was established in 2002 to strengthen environmental research and enhance collaboration between HKBU and the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of CAS. The HKBU Institute is an interdisciplinary research unit comprising more than 10 experienced faculty members from the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and the School of Chinese Medicine of HKBU participating in various research activities.
